House Hunting

Although you may have had some great memories in your current home, for some of us, it might be time to sell up and move on. With 5.5 million homes being sold in 2017, it seems that many of us are upping sticks and deciding to try somewhere new. However, through all of the moves in the UK, what exactly are the main reasons people are selling up?

From size issues to new beginnings, here are some of the top reasons we decide to move house.

Issues with the property

Probably one of the most common reasons people move on from their home is that their current property isn’t fit for purpose. An example of this is the issue of space. Maybe you’ve begun to realise that the once great amount of space suddenly feels a little bit too tight, especially if you’ve recently started a family.

Another reason could be that the neighbourhood you once loved so much has changed for the worse since you moved in. Maybe the area has become too busy or has been overrun by students, whatever the case, it might be time to move on.

Financial reasons

Sometimes, it can be issues with your funds that mean you need to sell up, however, this isn’t always a negative situation. A common reason for people to move is relocation due to a promotion or new job. New career opportunities mean new options when it comes to property, and maybe that new pay cheque will allow you to get the home you’ve always dreamed of.

On the other hand, it may be an issue of equity. If you’re looking at your property with no cash in the bank, selling your home and investing in a cheaper property could be a way of making some extra cash.

Life events

No matter where we live, life can throw a curveball at any moment. Sometimes this might mean that we have to move on from our current abode to find pastures new. If, for example, you break up with your significant other or spouse, you may need to sell the property and find new place to live.

Another more lighthearted reason could be you’re finally finished with work and are looking forward to a sunny retirement abroad. With 130,000 Brits moving to foreign climes last year, it’s not unusual for many of us to sell up in the UK to buy our perfect home abroad.
